Low FODMAP Cajun Seasoning Spice Blend

I absolutely love cooking classic creole-style meals at home. The spicy heat. The bold flavors. The interesting combination of classic French and Southern cooking.

Did I mention the heat?

When you are on a FODMAP Friendly Diet, store-bought spice blends are usually off the menu due to the constant presence of onion and garlic – the two most problematic ingredients for someone with the particular gastrointestinal problems a Low FODMAP diet is trying to alleviate. Because of this, I’ve taken to making all of my own spice blends and thought I’d pass the recipe off to you!

Storing Homemade Spice Blends

Dried herbs and ground spices can keep up to a year if kept dry, cool, and sealed up in a clean container. I like using swing-top jars like in the photos, because the mouth is wide and the spices can easily be mixed in the jar. Mason jars are also an easy alternative, as are empty spice bottles left over on your spice rack.

Most importantly, make sure any bottle or jar you use is thoroughly clean and completely dry before using. Damp spices can generate mold, and nobody wants that.

    1. I hope he likes it! It’s such a struggle to find easy but delicious ways to get around onion and garlic, but I try to share my ideas here as I get them!

Love this Kristen! Onion and garlic are just two flavors. It’s important to remember there’s a whole world of spices out there to enjoy! Wish I knew this before my reflux surgery!

  2. I tried this recipe as given, except I added a little more cayenne. I send the seasoning in a Cajun shrimp pasta. It was really great.
