A Spiced Blueberry Jam Cocktail
When it comes to a cocktail, first impressions are everything. There is no rule that a drink has to look pretty to be delicious, but the best cocktails engage all the senses – taste, scent, and sight. This spiced blueberry jam cocktail is a vibrant indigo purple and the complex flavors come together to make a drink that is not only beautiful, but especially tasty.

Not long ago, I was out with a group for a friend’s birthday party at Tapastre in Somerville, NJ. The cocktail list was extensive – to the point where I was explaining some of the ingredients to the table. Needless to say I was in love. One of the drinks on the menu was the Roxanne; the ingredients listed were spiced blueberry syrup, barrel-aged rum, lime, pineapple, and tiki bitters. With tropical flavors and berries, I knew it would be good, but I still wasn’t prepared. The deep purple color was amazing, and on top of that it was one of the most delicious cocktails I’ve had at a restaurant in a long time. I had to make a version for myself. This recipe for a Spiced Blueberry Jam Cocktail is my take on this fabulous concoction.
Fresh Blueberries & Blueberry Jam
Blueberries are in season, so if you can make your own fresh spiced blueberry jam, I highly encourage it. You don’t even have to use a water bath if you don’t want to. Cook the jam over the stove and then store it in air-tight containers in the fridge – they should last a few weeks. But honestly, that jam will get used up real quick once you try this cocktail!
If you prefer to use pre-made jam, search out some artisan spiced blueberry jelly or pick up a jar of regular blueberry jam. In this case, I recommend adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or a drop of clove bitters to the cocktail shaker, adding more to taste. It won’t be the same, but it will get you close.
The Roxy | A Spiced Blueberry Jam Cocktail
Ingredients
- 1 ounce white rum
- 1 ounce pineapple juice
- 2 tablespoons spiced blueberry jam
- ¼ ounce lime juice
- 2 dashes hibiscus bitters
- Fresh blueberries, to garnish
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with a few large ice cubes. These will be important to incorporating the jam into the cocktail. Shake vigorously, until the shaker is frosted over. Strain into prepared glasses and garnish with fresh blueberries.
I’m definitely going to try this drink, but I’m wondering where you got the glasses that it’s in!
I wish I could share a link! That glass was a super lucky find at a local Goodwill; I wish I had a few of them.
