Three Citrus Vanilla Marmalade | Feast In Thyme

Three Citrus Vanilla Marmalade | FIJ Mastery Challenge 2017

Earlier this month, one of my favorite bloggers – Marisa McClellan of Food In Jars – announced she would be hosting a year-long food preservation mastery challenge. Each month she will feature a new skill, following up with sample recipes and posts on how to accomplish the technique. She even started an online Facebook group, where participants in the challenge can share their triumphs (and failures), ask for advice, and just chat with other canners and preservationists. Between the move and the holidays, I haven’t canned anything since November. This is a stark change from a few months ago, when […]

Cranberry Orange Pie with Gingersnap Crust | Feast In Thyme

Cranberry Orange Pie with Gingersnap Crust | A Roaring Retro New Year’s Eve

I’m not the first to say 2016 has gone on long enough. I have a fantastic recipe for Cranberry Orange Pie with Gingersnap Crust to share with you today, but I’d like to say a few words about one of the latest losses. Feel free to skip ahead to the recipe though – I don’t mind.   Still here?   Okay.   This year has not been stellar in a broad sense, and social media by all accounts seems to agree. I created the Roaring Retro New Year’s theme with this thought in mind; a bit of nostalgic hope for good things […]

2016 Holiday Cookie Update | Feast In Thyme

2016 Holiday Cookie Update!

Every year, I end up making a lot of cookies for the holidays. I separate them out into little clear treat bags, tie them up with ribbons, and add them to gift baskets, boxes, and bags. This year (with the move), I told myself I’d refrain. My kitchen situation is only half set up, for one thing. I have less counter and storage space in the new place, so I’m still trying to find a home for everything. It’s not that the kitchen is tiny, exactly. It’s quite reasonably sized. I was just incredibly spoiled in our Jersey City apartment, […]

Stuffed Medjool Dates | Feast In Thyme

Blue Cheese Stuffed Medjool Dates & Other Small Plates | A Roaring Retro New Year’s Eve

Let’s talk about food at cocktail parties. I am always thinking about food when I invite people over for any occasion, even if it’s just a plan for ordering out. I really like to eat, so I assume most others do too. In that vein, I’ve never understood bars without even a light menu. I daresay I don’t trust them, which might be irrational and likely a discussion for another time. Regardless, I think few would disagree that food is essential when gathering with friends. I don’t necessarily mean a full meal though. When hosting a cocktail party, lots of […]

Cocktail Duo: Side Car & French 75 | A Roaring Retro New Year’s Eve

It’s been a long rough year for many of us. On a purely individual level, I have to say that my year has been stressful, but overall I have no rights to complain. After a lot of self-reflection and discussion, I left a position as a non-profit event manager this past fall to alleviate some stress and pursue more personal and creative projects (like this one). As I no longer needed to commute into New York City, we also moved out of Jersey City and our home state of New Jersey, choosing to settle in the more affordable and slower-paced suburbs of Wilmington, Delaware. […]
